About Carol Abel

Education/Training: Carol holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Nazarene University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She performed her clinical internship at Integris’ Decisions Day Treatment Program in Oklahoma City.

Philosophy: Carol has a naturally empathic and encouraging approach, and her goal is to build a safe therapeutic environment that offers insight and hope. Throughout the therapeutic process, the focus is to increase client’s overall sense of wellbeing in relation to self and others.

Professional Experience: For four years Carol worked at Integris’ day treatment program which treats individuals for both chemical dependency and mental health. Carol led therapeutic groups and counseled individuals who were experiencing significant trauma and major life changes such as death and divorce, as well as family, job, or financial difficulties. In this program she treated individuals dealing with chronic illness or significant health challenges, including issues of fatigue and stress for caregivers. Carol worked with clients to identify and understand symptoms, explore root causes, and provided them with techniques for reducing stress and managing their responses in order to change unhealthy thought patterns, and regain control over their lives. In addition to her private practice at The Grove, Carol is currently a therapist at Red Rock Behavioral Health Services and is a volunteer therapist at the community clinic sponsored by Crossings Community Church. In these various settings, Carol works cooperatively with clients on mental, emotional, and as desired, spiritual issues.

Professional Interests: Carol enjoys working with both men and women as they explore a variety of issues to improve quality of life. She has extensive experience with family of origin issues, including adult children of alcoholics and survivors of childhood abuse; relationship problems; mood swings; aging; grief; anxiety and depression. She has a heart for working with women through life’s transitions including issues related to relationships, marriage, divorce, career, parenting/care giving roles, as well as balancing personal needs with needs of others.
